CITY FAVS AFTER 6-1 WIN
24th October 2011
Roberto Mancini's Manchester City have overtaken Manchester United as favourites for the Barclays Premier League after beating their rivals 6-1 on Sunday.
Goals from Mario Balotelli (2), Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko (2) and David Silva mean that the Blues extend their lead to five points at the top of the table after Chelsea lost to QPR.
Bookmakers have cut City to general 5/4 favourites while United are out to 2/1 with Stan James and Chelsea can be backed at 9/2 with Betfred.
Sky Bet initially went 11/8 about City but have had to cut that to 11/10 and their Dale Tempest said:
"I don't think anyone saw that score coming - our traders certainly didn't as it was available at 550/1 before kick-off.
"It seems that City are no longer just the noisy neighbours of United; if Man United fans didn't believe City were a threat to their title beforehand, they certainly will now."
Bet365's Steve Freeth concurred, saying that "The noisy neighbours are here to stay!"
Wayne Rooney remains 13/5 favourite for the Golden Boot ahead of Sergio Aguero who has been cut to a general 3/1.
Robin van Persie is in to 9/2 with Ladbrokes following his brace from the bench for Arsenal, who are 50/1 chances for the title after beating Stoke.
The Gunners took the lead in the first half only to be pegged back by a Peter Crouch goal before captain van Persie took to the pitch to fire his side to a 3-1 victory.
Their North London rivals Tottenham were also in winning form, beating Blackburn 2-1 at Ewood Park.
Rovers have been cut to 10/11 to be relegated with Victor Chandler and are no bigger than even money, while Spurs are generally 50/1 to win their first Premier League title.
